Gaps in knowledge; access to the right resources, industry confidence, access to the right networks, and time are just some of the struggles that parents face when working with their children to find meaningful work experience placements. SPARK aims to help parents navigate this terrain.
SPARK will support a student seeking work experience; from initial introduction via the SPARK team, to assisting with paperwork both pre, and post placement. If under 18 we request that as a parent or legal guardian you are involved throughout, unless with prior written consent.
Unless already established as part of their future talent strategy, we will work with businesses to create a work experience schedule. We want both parties to benefit, so it is essential that a clearly defined programme is available - this enables the business to meet their needs - from a knowledge transfer perspective - but also that your child has an impactful experience.
There may sometimes exist the need for PPE - placement dependant of course - If this is the case we will let you know as soon as possible so this can be sourced. If however, access to equipment may be challenging please reach out to us at your earliest opportunity as we may be able to help.
We encourage two way narratives between SPARK, students, and businesses to understand how things went. This helps us to continually improve our services, and ensure that everyone is happy. There is no one-size-fits-all, and if your child sees another placement, in a different industry, get in touch!
For some students, it’s not just a one-off – it’s the SPARK that lights a fire. Whether it's shadowing a graphic designer, helping in a busy office, or getting hands-on at a stables, work experience can be exciting, empowering, and even life-changing. In these exciting times repeat placements can be arranged.
My name is Katherine Nowill, and I'm a 50 year old mum of two grown up children. I have three step children and two step-grandsons.
I am passionate about inspiring the next generation and encouraging creativity and independence in our children. We are amidst a widening skills gap, whilst there are fewer and fewer opportunities for students as they make some of the most critical decisions of their young lives - what to do as a career.
Pressure on youngsters today is huge; they are growing up in a world full of expectations, some spoken, some silent, but all very real: There’s pressure to look a certain way. To buy the right things. To learn at the “right” pace. To be everything, all at once. - It's time we said 'What do you want to do, for you.'
And so SPARK was born - Skills, Placements And Real-Industry Knowledge can empower our children to make informed choices about their futures, through real-world, meaningful work experience placements across industry, to have the confidence to make decisions that fit with their interests and their passions.
I am CRB checked and have a wealth of experience across multiple industries such as: hospitality, retail, transport and logistics and robotics and factory automation. I have also recently re-registered as a STEM ambassador, in a bid to inspire the next generation of the opportunities for all in STEM careers. I also recently completed the NSPCC's Keeping Children Safe Online (4.0).
